Well in many ways, a blog is little different from a discussion in a Google group. But the custom template, your control over Html formatting, the ability to upload pictures, etc. make it a lot more flexible and attractive. In fact, with practice you can make a pretty professional looking homepage with blogger. You can also let friends subscribe to your blog using Google reader or similar "feed" functions, and keep them up to date with changes in your life. Blogger is great for:
1. Bands or other performing artists. Add a new post to announce a performance or exhibit.
2. Organizations like clubs, circles, schools, and similar organizations. The blog authors can announce last minute cancellations of events due to weather, etc.
3. Just yourself. Keep all your family and friends around the world up-to-date on your activities by keeping an online diary.
